The social class order changed dramatically when the plebeians went on strike at 494 BC. Before 494 BC the Plebeians had very little rights. They were not aloud to marry a Patrician. They also couldn't vote even though they were a citizen of Rome. They also could not serve in government meaning they had no senators or consuls. This all changed after 494 BC when they went on strike. When the Plebeians went on strike they were no longer serving in the army so now they had no foot solders. Some of the Plebeians left Rome because the felt like they were being un fairly treated. The Patricians were losing all of there shopkeepers and craftsman so they had to do something. After the strike the Plebeians were now aloud to marry the other class meaning the could marry a Patrician. They now had a part in government called the consuls of plebs and they had a tribune. The tribune had the power to veto. Veto means "I forbid". The tribune could say no to any law. The classes slowly started to become equal.
